Love & Other Drugs

So excited I finally got to watch “Love & Other Drugs”. I remember seeing the preview when I watched “Eat, Pray, Love” last August and it triggered my interest.

The movie takes place in the 90’s, which is a different perspective that I could appreciate.  Jake Gyllenhall plays a charming pharmaceutical representative (Jamie) who sells Zoloft and the new sexual performance enhancement drug…Viagra. Due to Jake’s sleek way with woman, he makes great sales. He’s a ladies man whom no woman can seem to tame…that is until he meets (Maggie) played by Anne Hathaway.

Maggie is a young woman who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease which is rare for her age. She’s bold, witty, and fiercely independent. A bit too independent, to a fault.
Through the course of their relationship, we see how Maggie has a problem letting men into her world as she was badly burned from her last love. She realized her disease was more of a burden to any man who would have to commit to her especially knowing that in the future she’ll only get worse as there is no cure.

I rather enjoyed Maggie’s character and the realness in showing her vulnerability, her raw emotional rollercoaster of emotions due to her frustrations regarding the cards she was dealt. She doesn’t want pity and she doesn’t want help. But luckily, Jamie knows her situation, what he signed up for, and refuses to leave her side.

I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the music choices that were thrown in some of the dramatic moments between the two lovers, however the movie was really good in my opinion.

Fave line:
"You meet thousands of people and none of them really touch you, and than you meet one person and your life is changed…forever."

I give this movie...
