Say Anything

If you know me, ya know I love me some 80's music. I generally love a lot about the 80's, mainly because I was born then... so movies of the 80's also hold somewhat dear to my heart. Over the years, I've heard of the movie "Say Anything" starring John Cusack and Ione Skye. I've seen re-enactments of the infamous "boombox" scene but have never seen the real scene. It was time!

The movie is about an unlikely couple who find love with eachother while juggling the balance of and pressures of life. Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) is a sweet, protective natured guy who falls for the beauty with Brains Diane Court (Ione Skye). Diane is a genius and has recieved a scholarship to travel to England to continue her studies after graduation.They only have a few weeks together before her departure, and when some family problems arise...she has to consider if leaving is the right thing to do.

While the storyline didn't seem to have much a point to it, there was something I really enjoyed about Lloyd Dobler's character. Maybe it was his intense nature? His protective ways? The fact that was sooo into Diane? Probably all those things. Whichever one it was, I'd have to say it had some moments that I did think were really cute. It's been said that when men have "man-crushes" they don't have them on beefed up males like Arnold or Sylvestor...they have them on regular guys...like John Cusack.

Well, after watching this movie...I think it's safe to say that the crushes are recognized by the opposite team as well.

Now my guilty pleasure song is "Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel ...geesh.

I was expecting Diane to dash to the window and than run downstairs and jump into Lloyd's arms as the music plays...but the scene didn't really pan out that way. In fact she didn't really react except toss and turn in bed. That was disappointing. Or...maybe I just watch too many movies lol.
