Love & Other Drugs

So excited I finally got to watch “Love & Other Drugs”. I remember seeing the preview when I watched “Eat, Pray, Love” last August and it triggered my interest.

The movie takes place in the 90’s, which is a different perspective that I could appreciate.  Jake Gyllenhall plays a charming pharmaceutical representative (Jamie) who sells Zoloft and the new sexual performance enhancement drug…Viagra. Due to Jake’s sleek way with woman, he makes great sales. He’s a ladies man whom no woman can seem to tame…that is until he meets (Maggie) played by Anne Hathaway.

Maggie is a young woman who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease which is rare for her age. She’s bold, witty, and fiercely independent. A bit too independent, to a fault.
Through the course of their relationship, we see how Maggie has a problem letting men into her world as she was badly burned from her last love. She realized her disease was more of a burden to any man who would have to commit to her especially knowing that in the future she’ll only get worse as there is no cure.

I rather enjoyed Maggie’s character and the realness in showing her vulnerability, her raw emotional rollercoaster of emotions due to her frustrations regarding the cards she was dealt. She doesn’t want pity and she doesn’t want help. But luckily, Jamie knows her situation, what he signed up for, and refuses to leave her side.

I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the music choices that were thrown in some of the dramatic moments between the two lovers, however the movie was really good in my opinion.

Fave line:
"You meet thousands of people and none of them really touch you, and than you meet one person and your life is changed…forever."

I give this movie...

So it's a new year...Welcome 2011!!!

I realize that I fell off my blog for a bit now. I found I was extremely busy and distracted with some of the blessings that surrounded me for the past few months. But I do plan on getting back on the horse again and writing, and reviewing and sharing my thoughts with those who care to read.

2010 was a trying year filled with many disappointments and challenges that struck the core of who I am and what I want in life. However, this past year has also blessed me in abundance in so many ways. I gained some new friendships, learned some new practices and found love. Not just "falling in love" type love...but love for my family and dear friends who I cherish more than anything. I discovered who really has my back, found out that I CAN get through the darkness and found "Spice" once more.

God has blessed me with so many things and 2011 has already started off in a great way. So I wish you all a Happy New Year and Positive Energy for 2011. If it doesn't serve you...get rid of it! This year...I plan to get my "Happy" on!

WEEDS SEASON 6

WHAAAA?!!!
Who is caught up to date with all of Season 6 episodes of the controversial dark comedy "Weeds"?!!!
I am so amped for next season. I was very worried as I thought that this might have been the series finale, but even if it was...it would have ended amazingly. This season picked up where the last two season's started to get snoozy. Nancy Botwin....you crazy gal you! ;) Gotta love to hate her.

T.I...Now that's a Man of Character

I just came home from a delicious lunch celebrating my mother's birthday to read an e-mail from my good friend **Shout out to my home-girl M. Umali** to find an e-mail that made my day.

Rarely do we see good news published in comparison to the bad news that overwhelm our television, newspapers and internet. I must say that it's refreshing to hear something heartfelt, selfless and genuine about not only an ordinary everyday person, but a celebrity. I know that T.I has had a bad rep with the latest charges, but it's so wonderful to show that not everything is at it seems. Many could judge him for the allegations, charges and time he has spent in prison, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a good person. He's stayed by his wife's side through many many years being a devoted partner and father. People have cracked on him for not "upgrading" to a supermodel given his  rising success in the music industry when he should be praised for understanding the virtue of commitment. I love "T.I & Tiny" and believe they make a beautiful couple and are a great example of true love in the shady world called "The Music Business".

But my love for him has grown even more as I read this article about how he selflessly took the time out of his day to reach out to a man who was about to end his life. His humble humility to recognize that it was his God's will to speak through him to reach out to a complete stranger should be recognized and respected. We need to hear more stories like this...

Enjoy!

God Bless You T.I

A New Earth...

**This blog entry is dedicated to a special woman who always reminds me to keep my head up, never give up and sends positive energy all day and everyday...Tchas'toni Goodridge. Love Ya Girl! Thanks for being my rock.**

So, after the past year or so, a dear friend of mine (Shout out to Tchas J) had recommended that I read Eckhart Tolle’s book “A New Earth”. I had never gotten around to purchasing the book but it was again on my list of things that I need to do. This book was also featured on Oprah’ s Book Club and has received endless praises from readers all over the world.  When I noticed this book was on the list of meditational reads that my teacher had given me, I called up Tchas and told her that I will now make it my duty to read it as I plan to go through the whole list this year. Well, I was gratefully surprised to receive the book in the mail a few weeks later as Tchas wanted to ensure that I would keep true to my word. And I did. J

I can understand why this book received such praise and recognition by the time I got a few chapters in. I have to admit that in the beginning, I was having a hard time trying to wrap my head around that much talked about “ego” of ours.  But after taking some time to let the thoughts manifest, I was intrigued by this new way of thinking. It’s amazing how much our ego influences our train of thought and why we let things create worry, anxiety and fear.

I especially found the story about how ducks flap their wings to release any negative energy fascinating and how it relates to how humans should do the same thing. Shaking off any negative energy that can be weighing us down can help refresh us to continue to swim along merrily without carrying resentment and harboring ill feelings. I also found the chapters regarding our “Pain-Bodies” insightful. We can sometimes carry around unhappiness because it’s so familiar for us. It’s almost as if we subconsciously want to feel down or depressed and this can be detrimental to how we carry on in our everyday lives.

Overall, this book was an enlightening read filled with many goodies to help you move along life with a refreshing new frame of mind. It’s a tool to use when we have a hard time letting go and when we want to only focus on the negative. We all will go through our funks, our ups and downs…but if we remember to dust that dirt off our shoulder and flap our wings, we can remember that the flight of happiness isn’t a dream, but it can be a reality. It can be A New Earth.
