10 Things I Hate About You

A few weeks ago, I saw a website that showcased the top romantic movies of all time. I'm not usually one for romance movies but I must admit...I did love the "The Notebook". I wondered if there were any gems that I might of passed on in the romance movie department. The list had old and new movies. On the list was the movie "10 Things I Hate About You". It's supposed to be a modern take of "The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare.

Kat Stratford, (Julia Stiles) is a feminist type of teen who doesn't date. She has an attractive younger sister, Bianca, who a lot of guys ogle over. In order for Bianca to start dating, her older sister needs to go out on dates as well. That's the deal thier father ordered. The leading male actors in this movie are Heath Ledger who plays the mysterious, bad boy Patrick Verona and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays the shy new guy(Cameron James) who has it bad for Bianca.

When Patrick is bribed with cash to take out Kat so that Cameron can take out her little sister, the plan takes a different turn. Patrick starts to have real feelings for the girl that everyone thinks is abnormal, cold and frigid.

I have to say I was disappointed again. I don't think this was a fantastic love story but maybe it was cooler back in the late 90's. It seemed like a "Saved by the Bell" episode that just went on for too long. There wasn't much deepness for a Shakespeare remake, regardless of how modern they tried to make it. But I do have to say that they were playing some serious jams in one of the house party scenes. GOOD MUSIC right there! I would have liked to be at Bogey's house jam JUST for the music!

I decided to add this scene as I've heard about it so many times as being a "romantic" moment. Yah, I guess it's somewhat cute.

I give this movie...whomp whomp

cheesy, lame, good music
